Food Meets Fashion

Food Meets Fashion

Food and fashion aren’t all that different.  People go wild over trends.  Chefs are treated like rock stars.  Everyone wants to get in to that one restaurant, or wear that one trend, find out the inspiration behind the creation.  The food and fashion industries are hyper-creative.

In my career I’ve jumped back and forth between both, which is what sparked my idea for a photoshoot that combines the two.  I reached out to a few people who were down for my idea- a decadent romantic outdoor feast for fall complete with a stylishly dressed guest or two- and then they reached out to a few more people, and thus we created our “FoodxFashion” shoot.  Antonella from Krumville in Brooklyn- you might remember her from my very first blog post on here- supplied the delicious gluten-free quiche and breads.  Merica, who owns NIA knitwear, had our model and lifestyle-fashion blogger Kelsley wear her eco-friendly clothing, and Jersey City vintage shop Another Man’s Treasure lent us coats and the table cloth. Business owner Sufia brought the heat with bottles of her Silly Chilly sauces.  I directed, did prop styling and photographed the shoot.  Everything else in the tablescape was items Merica and I already owned or borrowed except for a few pumpkins we bought, so we created this whole photoshoot for nearly nothing.

I was so happy to connect with these creative, ambitious, inspiring ladies and collaborate with them to bring my idea to life.  Even though not all of us personally knew each other, we instantly clicked, some staying later after the shoot to chat about life, what it’s like to run a business/blog and other experiences.

I chose Van Vorst Park in Jersey City for the location because it’s so picturesque from every angle.  I love the old fountain framed by the flowers and the brownstones that line the backdrop to this little park situated in the middle of Downtown Jersey City.  We met up early by 8am and lucked out with the perfect weather, too. If these photos don’t get you in a fall mood, I don’t know what will!  Click the photo below to see the full gallery of the best shots from the day:
